Thank you so much for writing this; I connected deeply with what you've shared about your relationship with your mother. It's amazing how distance and space can help us develop perspective. My mother takes no interest in the adult I've become--she continues to think of me as the child she knew, and it's really painful. While I'm sorry you had similar experiences, it's nonetheless really helpful to read how you're dealing with them and actively choosing to parent your own kids differently.
