Honestly, I'm not a big fan of cancelling people, either -- especially at its most reductive point, cancel culture is the equivalent of ignoring the elephants stomping around a room. But it's helpful for peoples' peace of mind, and it is as easy as "blocking" others on digital platforms.
You make an excellent point about smaller creators. The avalanche of criticism, in my opinion, should be reserved for those who can't be bothered to respond to those (including their fans) that want to engage with them in good faith.
Your second point is also really important, about digging through old archaic statements and musings for troubling content. That's bad form, and shouldn't happen.
As for your third point, I think you may be referring to the Me Too movement, which was founded by Tarana Burke to help show how pervasive sexual harassment and assault are in society.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments.
